WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Fans heading for Ross-Ade Stadium this fall to see the Boilermakers play will encounter several game-day changes. "The closing of a road that in the past was a primary route to and around campus leads the list of wrinkles that we want Boilermaker fans and visiting fans to know about well in advance," said Jay Cooperider, director of communications for Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics. "The first order of business for all fans is to get on the road early because the closer you get to Ross-Ade Stadium, the greater the congestion is likely to be." Lindberg Road, State Road 43 in White County Closed Lindberg Road, an east-west route a mile north of the stadium, is closed for reconstruction and will remain closed for about two years. In the past, fans approaching campus from the north along Northwestern Avenue were directed along Lindberg to paid parking southwest of Ross-Ade. With the closing of Lindberg, several changes in traffic patterns have been implemented. To ensure the smoothest possible trip to the game, all fans should watch for orange signs and message boards that will assist police officers in routing fans who use paid and permit parking. Additionally, fans who purchased parking permits should hang the permit from their rearview mirror before leaving home. "If officers know at a glance where to direct fans, it will make the process much smoother for all," Cooperider said. With Lindberg Road unavailable for use in routing traffic to paid parking at the Intramural Playing Fields, fans headed for paid parking who are approaching campus on U.S. 52 - known locally as Sagamore Parkway - will be directed farther west to McCormick Road. "The route to which we will direct fans who use paid parking might seem a bit out of the way," Cooperider said, "but police and traffic planners have identified this path as the one that will cause the least congestion close to campus and will get those who use paid parking to where they need to be." Fans who have purchased parking permits to park around the perimeter of the stadium will be directed along Northwestern Avenue to Cherry Lane. This applies to those coming from the north, east and south. Those approaching from the west on State Route 26 will be directed north on McCormick to Cherry Lane. Those approaching from the east and headed to paid parking west of the academic campus will be directed along State Street to McCormick Road. Fans coming from the west on U.S. 52 should turn on Klondike Road and follow the signs to paid parking. For the past two seasons, fans travelling to games at Ross-Ade Stadium had to contend with construction delays related to the relocation of U.S. 231 east of campus. With that project complete, traffic flow on the east side of campus should be much smoother. "We will use several new routes to direct traffic now that U.S. 231 is finished," Cooperider said. "We ask fans to watch for signs early and heed the directions of officers along the way." A section of State Road 43 north of West Lafayette will be closed for bridge work, and fans are urged to use Interstate 65. The Reynolds-to-Brookston leg of State Road 43 will be closed. Those heading south on 43 should follow State Road 24 to I-65 and proceed to State Road 43 or 25 near West Lafayette.
Parking lot changes In addition, all parking in the area of Slayter Hill will be paid public parking. Fees are $5 on the Intramural Playing Fields and $10 in the Slayter Hill area. "In an effort to control parking, increase revenue and better manage game-day logistics, all parking in outlying lots is now paid parking," Cooperider said. Parking in university garages will remain free, although grilling and other fires are prohibited in these structures. Fans with disabilities seeking handicapped parking will be directed to the paved lot just west of Rankin Track and Field and east of Lambert Field, the Purdue baseball facility. Shuttle buses will be available for all fans parking in outlying lots.
Students must carry identification "We are instituting a policy of checking student IDs for several reasons," Cooperider said. "One is that we want to control the resale and scalping of tickets. Purdue students are given a discount on their ticket price, and that discount is intended as a benefit solely for our students." Another reason for the new student-ticket policy is to ensure that students are seated in designated student sections. "All fans will be required to sit in the seat printed on their ticket," Cooperider said. "We reserve sections of the stadium for students, and we want to ensure that they are the only ones in those seats." Three kinds of identification will be accepted: A current Purdue student ID card, an ID issued by the Athletic Ticket Office for students at Purdue regional campuses and recent graduates who are members of the John Purdue Club, or a similar ID from the ticket office that is issued to spouses and dependents of students. Students are strongly encouraged to arrive at the stadium at least an hour before kickoff to ensure that they will have plenty of time to have their ID checked and get to their seats.
